miraDry® Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Call (310) 385-0000 for Beverly Hills Skin Treatments

Hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating is more common than you might suspect. This condition is characterized by excessive sweating in the palms, feet, underarms, and even the face. Underarm hyperhidrosis, or excessive underarm sweating, is the most common form of this condition. Along with active sweating, it is also common to experience excessive blushing as part of this condition. Hyperhidrosis is often hereditary and is not unique to any one ethnic group.

Don't waste money on ineffective or temporary treatments for your excess sweating. Dr. David Sayah's office is one of the first practices in the Los Angeles area to offer the revolutionary miraDry® treatment. MiraDry® uses electromagnetic therapy to provide a lasting solution for those suffering from excessive underarm sweating.*

You can reach out to (310) 385-0000 to determine how Dr. Sayah can help you end your excessive sweating with proven medical therapies.

Is miraDry® Right for Me?

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, you may develop anxiety, depression or social phobias as a result of self-consciousness and frustration over your condition.

You may also experience secondary physical issues such as:

  • Dehydration
  • Coldness
  • Clamminess
  • Skin infections

The effects can be very long-term, even lasting a lifetime.* Electromagnetic energy and BOTOX are modern treatment modalities for excess perspiration. If embarrassing underarm sweating, stained clothing, sweaty palms and constant antiperspirant application are affecting your life, then you may be a good candidate for these treatments.

Some of the most common concerns our patients have about excessive sweating:

  • People noticing their sweat stains
  • Repeatedly adding more antiperspirant
  • The excessive sweating interrupts daily activities
  • Worry over whether their clothing will become damaged
  • Embarrassment over sweat stains

Procedures

There are several treatments available for hyperhidrosis. Oral medications, special antiperspirants or other topical applications, and regular BOTOX® injections may all have some effect on hyperhidrosis although they are not permanent solutions. Permanent treatments for hyperhidrosis include Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) and the miraDry® system. Of the two, Dr. Sayah feels the miraDry® system offers more direct benefits for his patients with much greater safety.*

Unlike ETS, which involves surgical nerve removal, miraDry® is a noninvasive, nonsurgical treatment for hyperhidrosis. There are no cuts, incisions or sutures necessary.

As a result, there will also be a total absence of scarring. However, since miraDry® can only be used to treat the underarm area, ETS remains the treatment of choice for excessive sweating on the palms of the hands.

Prior to the procedure, a local anesthetic is injected into the target area. During treatment, microwave energy is delivered to the sweat glands, which lie under the skin, and that generates heat. This results in thermolysis, or the thermal deactivation, of the sweat glands. As these energy waves are emitted, a hydro-ceramic system is used to cool and protect the surface of the skin, focusing the microwaves instead on the sweat glands below. The procedure lasts approximately an hour, and you remain awake for the duration, listening to your favorite music on your iPod.

After the Procedure

Since the miraDry® system is noninvasive, recovery is very rapid. Most patients are able to go right back to work the same day as their appointment, and normal exercise can be resumed within one week. Patients may notice some discomfort in their underarms for the next few days including swelling and a dull ache, although this can be minimized with ice packs or over-the-counter medications if necessary.

Results are almost immediate, and patients report a very high satisfaction rate following the procedure. A second procedure scheduled for a few months after the initial appointment is typically recommended to maximize results. Since sweat glands do not regenerate following the treatment, the miraDry® system is a permanent solution for ending hyperhidrosis. Sweating, on average, is reduced by over 80 percent.*

There is nearly a 100 percent success rate when using miraDry® to treat excessive underarm hyperhidrosis for our Beverly Hills patients. Once the symptoms have lessened or been resolved, most patients find that they feel less self-conscious and socializing becomes much easier.

FAQ

What Is miraDry®?

The miraDry® treatment is a non-invasive electromagnetic energy treatment which deactivates sweat glands in the underarms. There are no incisions of any kind. A local anesthetic is injections to numb the underarms so you do not feel the procedure. Dr. Sayah typically performs two treatments, with three months in between, for best results. In rare cases, a third treatment can add to the results.

What Can I Expect Post-Procedure?

Downtime after the procedure is minimal. Dr. Sayah recommends Tylenol or Ibuprofen and intermittent ice pack application for the first few days to increase your comfort. Some soreness or swelling in the area is not uncommon but should subside within a few weeks. Most patients return to their normal daily routine immediately following the procedure, and resume exercising within several days.

What Kind of Results Should I See?

Nearly all patients experience drastically reduced perspiration. According to a recent clinical study, the average sweat reduction was 86%. Your reduced sweating should be immediately noticeable following the first treatment. A second treatment can improve results, as some perspiration may return within three months of your first session. Results vary by person, as they do with any medical procedure.

Will The Results Last?

Yes, results are typically permanent. Once sweat glands are eliminated, they do not regenerate or come back.*

What Makes the miraDry® Procedure Unique?

Because it actually eliminates the sweat glands, miraDry® provides a lasting solution to hyperhidrosis in a non-invasive procedure. Options such as BOTOX® only shut down sweat glands temporarily, and invasive surgical treatments contain inherent risks.

Is the miraDry® Procedure Right for Me?

If you experience excessive perspiration, embarrassing underarm sweat outbreaks, stained clothing or apply antiperspirant frequently, then you may be a good candidate for the miraDry® procedure. Dr. Sayah is available for consultations and able to answer all your questions.
