Laser Hair Removal in Beverly Hills

Want Smooth, Hair-Free Skin All the Time?

Unwanted or excess body hair is embarrassing and unsightly. It is also a common problem. Women often experience unwanted or excess hair on their upper lip or eyebrows, bikini area, underarms, or legs. Men often wish to rid themselves of excess hair between their eyebrows, on their chest or back, or other areas. Temporary fixes, such as shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, or plucking, can be time-consuming, messy, and irritating. For a long-lasting solution, many turn to laser hair removal.

Our Beverly Hills plastic surgery center and clinic can help you get rid of unwanted hair through this quick and convenient procedure.*

What Can I Expect During a Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Each session can last a few minutes to more than an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated, and desired results generally require several sessions. At the start of each treatment, the system settings are customized to skin type and color, as well as the area being treated, and any hair above the surface is trimmed away. A spot test is conducted to determine the skin’s response to the settings.

A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area to help skin stay cool and to focus the treatment light. Patients are given protective eyewear to shield eyes from the bright light. Highly controlled pulses or flashes of energy are emitted as the technician moves the device over the treatment area. This energy heats the hair, damaging the follicle and drastically reducing regrowth potential. Much of the existing hair is wiped away along with the gel at the end of the session. Additional hair may continue to fall out throughout the following 1-2 weeks.*

How Much Time Is There Between Sessions?

Hair follows a three-phase growth cycle, and at any given time, a person has hair in all three phases. Laser removal treatment is most effective on hair in the anagen, or active, phase. Because of this, desired results generally require several sessions. Appointments are scheduled when the hair begins to regrow. This is generally after 4-6 weeks, but depending on the treatment area and hair type, it may be up to 8 weeks.

Are Light Treatments Safe for All Skin Types?

Yes, all skin types can benefit from laser hair removal treatments. This includes tanned skin and dark skin on individuals of every ethnicity.

Can All Hair Be Treated?

For the most part, yes. Treatment settings are always customized to the texture, color, and location of the unwanted hair. Hair must contain at least a small amount of pigment to be successfully treated.

What Does the Treatment Feel Like?

Many patients describe the feeling as similar to being snapped by a rubber band, while others only experience a slight tingling. While the treatment can cause some discomfort, it is generally tolerated very well. Patients with particularly sensitive skin may request topical anesthesia be applied prior to treatment.

Are There Any Possible Side Effects?

Although infrequent and generally minor, the most common side effects are superficial, and immediately following the session. They also vary from patient to patient, depending on skin type and the extent of the procedure. The skin surrounding treated hair follicles may exhibit swelling or redness; however, this result is desirable because it indicates that the follicle is responding to treatment and typically subsides within a few hours. Most people return to their normal routine right away. Blistering is possible but rare and usually resolves quickly. Some patients notice changes in skin tone following a treatment, but this returns to normal within a few weeks. Patients can minimize their risk of side effects or complications by limiting their sun exposure before and after treatment sessions.

What Kind of Results Should I Expect?

Studies have proven that the targeted, light-based energy can damage or destroy hair follicles at the cellular level. It is important to remember that patients usually require multiple sessions for total hair removal, but each treatment achieves further permanent reduction of re-growing hair.*
