Breast enhancement procedures have the potential to produce beautiful results. Unfortunately, not all breast surgeries yield successful results, and some patients are left unhappy or unsatisfied. Dr. David Sayah performs breast revision surgery on patients who desire a more beautiful breast appearance. A common question he hears from these patients is how soon is too soon for revision surgery? Here, Dr. Sayah explains the answer.
The Recommended Wait Period for Breast Revision
There are two main reasons why a patient may undergo breast revision surgery. The first reason is purely for aesthetic purposes. A patient may be unhappy with the appearance of her breasts following breast augmentation, lift or reduction and decide to undergo revision surgery to improve the appearance. Before considering breast revision surgery, it is important for patients to understand that the final results of their breast procedure are not immediate. This is because the breasts will be swollen during the first weeks of recovery. It may take anywhere from three months to a year for complete healing and for the final results to appear. If a patient is not satisfied with the appearance of her breast implants or the results of her breast lift or reduction once swelling has gone down, Dr. Sayah encourages her to schedule a consultation with him to discuss her revision options.
The second reason why women may undergo breast revision surgery is to address a complication. If an implant ruptures or leaks, it will need to be replaced. Other women may experience tightening of the scar tissue around the implant, also known as capsular contracture. In these cases, breast revision is necessary and should be performed sooner rather than later. If you experience any of these complications, contact Dr. Sayah immediately.
When Should I Consider Breast Revision?
Breast revision may be appropriate if:
- Your saline implants have deflated or ruptured
- Your silicone implants have ruptured or leaked
- You are unhappy with your breast size following breast augmentation or breast reduction
- You experience capsular contracture
- Your implants have shifted in position
- Your breasts have become saggy or otherwise changed in appearance due to weight loss or gain
Dr. Sayah has years of experience performing breast enhancement procedures and breast revision surgeries. During your breast revision consultation, Dr. Sayah will carefully evaluate the results of your previous surgery to identify all areas to be improved during the revision procedure. He will then design a plan to correct your unsatisfactory results and achieve the breasts you initially desired.
